The Thesis

The sixth layer.

The five layers of the AI economy are now the accepted picture: energy, compute, infrastructure, models, applications. They leave out the entity the entire system depends on. The individual human being. River is building the human layer.

The Argument

Intelligence without data is a library with no books.

The models are only as good as the signal they run on. And the honest, behavioural, revealed-preference signal that actually tells you who a person is and what they want is currently being extracted for free from the people who generate it. That extraction is the economic foundation of the entire AI economy, and it carries a structural problem the market has not priced: consent. Or rather, the absence of it.

Every great infrastructure investment in history follows the same pattern. The railroad gets built. Then the towns that control the junctions become wealthy. The question was never whether the railroad mattered. The question was: where is the junction? In the AI economy, the junction is data. Consented, structured, individually owned data that can flow into the intelligence layer without legal risk, and with a return mechanism that keeps the people generating it participating. River is the junction.
